National Dog Registry Code Of Ethics

On the occasion of its twenty-third birthday and to celebrate the principles by which it conducts its interests and tasks, National Dog Registry hereby pledges the continuance of its vital endeavor: the safe return of lost and stolen pets to their homes. Such interests impose obligations beyond those of ordinary commerce. These interests impose grave social responsibilities and a duty to which NDR freely dedicates itself.

NDR therefore zealously maintains and works to improve the standards of its calling, and proposes to other registries that they share in these standards of integrity and honor. NDR has consistently adhered to its ideal if moral conduct in business relations and, as a result, the name National Dog Registry has come to connote competency, fairness and high integrity. No inducements of any kind can ever justify departure from this ideal. NDR pledges to conduce its business in accordance with the tenets set forth below:

Article 1
In justice to those individuals who entrust the safety and security of their beloved pets, NDR pledges now, as always, to place the welfare of the pet before organizational or personal needs, comfort and profit and to leave no stone unturned in the pursuit of this promise.

Article 2
National Dog Registry will endeavor to eliminate in its own community and those communities within its influence any practices that endanger the welfare of the animal population in general.

Article 3
In accepting a registration, NDR pledges to protect and promote the safety and welfare of that pet. This obligation of absolute fidelity to the animal’s interest is primary to the basic nature of NDRs recovery system.

Article 4
During the search for its owners, NDR pledges to offer guarantee of payment for the pet’s boarding and/or medical expenses in cases where NDR deems it necessary to insure the animal’s safety.

Article 5
NDR will seek no unfair advantage over other lesser known registries and vows to remain ready to offer its assistance in the safe return of a pet.

Article 6
NDR shall willingly share with other registries the lessons of its experience for the benefit of the pet-owning public.

Article 7
NDR will keep itself informed about state and national matters affecting the nation’s pets so it may contribute responsibly to public thinking on such matters.

Article 8
NDR will strive to present a true picture in its advertising and representations to the public.

Article 9
NDR pledges its moral, financial and physical support wherever possible to those individuals and organizations whose ethical goals are dedicated to proper treatment of the members of the animal kingdom.

Article 10
NDR pledges always to serve the public with the lofty goals set forth by its founders and directors: ethics, honor and dependability.

THE NDR NETWORK

Since developing the concept of a nationally-registered tattoo system in 1966, The National Dog Registry has returned more lost and stolen pets to their rightful homes than any other organization in the world. Our database of more than 6,000,000 animals give our hotline staff instant access to the identity and ownership of each pet registered with our agency. Every day, NDR works with shelters, pounds, humane societies, veterinarians, laboratories, dog wardens, rescue groups, and police agencies across the country to make sure NDR -registered pets are returned safely to their homes. Each of these organizations knows how to contact NDR immediately if a tattooed or implanted animal is found. In fact, research laboratories have begun co-sponsored NDR tattoo and registration clinics to protect the safety of pets in their areas! NDR has a near-perfect recovery record when it's system is followed properly.

Every year, we distribute thousands of "Wanted" posters (with our toll-free number 800-NDR-DOGS) that alerts people how to report a found pet who is registered with our service. NDR has saved thousands and thousands of pets that have been accidentally lost or deliberately stolen. These lucky animals have been given the gift a painless , permanent tattoo or implant, a unique identification, that has helped us reunite them with their owners.
